I've probably mentioned this in another blog, but recently I've been reading in Genesis. This time I was in the chapter that spoke about the sacrifice God had asked Abraham to make. There's been a few things over the years that have stuck out to me about these verses. One of those things is when Abraham and the men with him stop on their way to the place of sacrifice. At this point just Abraham and Isaac are to head up the mountain. I believe that in Abraham's mind he thought surely, somehow God was going to intervene before he had to kill his son. He tells the servants, "I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you." (Genesis 22:5) He told the men that he AND Isaac were going to come back to them. I think he was believing God hadn't completed the story yet. We also see that evidence when he confidently tells Isaac that God will provide a sacrifice. But what really got me the other day as I was reading was down in verse 14. This is after the angel of the Lord had stopped Abraham and told him not to harm Isaac. Abraham looks over and sees a ram caught in the thicket. He realizes the Lord has provided the sacrifice and his son that he loves so much can live on. The Word says, "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh:" I've always heard that Jehovah Jireh simply meant our provider - And it does! He will provide for us just like he provided the sacrifice for Abraham that day! But as I looked back at the original Hebrew meaning of the word it is "Jehovah will see (to it)." Now, this may not mean anything to anyone else, but when I read that I got so excited! I've always thought of Him being my provider in terms of physical and material needs, even spiritual needs. He provides money when I have none. He provides food. He provides shelter. He provides grace and forgiveness! And all of those things are so wonderful and I'm more than grateful for them! But for some reason when I hear someone say, "I'll see to it!" - I take that to mean that they are determined to figure it out and handle the situation. Not just provide the solution, but handle the entire thing. Now I'm praying, "Lord, be Jehovah Jireh in my life! In my work situations, in my relationships, in my thought life, in our ministry! Just handle the whole thing! See to it that what needs to be done is done!" God is serious about being able to handle your life! He's serious about you knowing that He is Jehovah Jireh, your provider, the one that will see to it that His will is accomplished in each situation you turn over to Him! He is MORE THAN ENOUGH!
